Flight 1 Recaps

George, posing after writing the 3.0 rules we still abide by!

CVAC continued their season of resurgence, winning their second team match of the year, giving them the early lead in the voting for D.F.O. Comeback Team of the Year! Mark led the CVAC team off with his second singles win in as many tries, but CSC's Erick countered by doing the same, made all the more remarkable as he defeated one of the toughest outs in the entire Flight in David, who had his third straight three set SUPER TIE-BREAK match! In doubles, Jimmy and Paul enjoyed their second wins of the season in a tough SUPER TIE-BREAK result, but CSC's Dylan and Jeff answered back, evening the team match at 2-2 as Dylan enjoyed his first ever 3.0 victory! Thus, as the Founding Fathers of 3.0 Tennis had written over 200 years ago, the entire team match would come down to #3 doubles! Showing incredible resolve, Adam and Jonathan enjoyed a come-from-behind SUPER TIE-BREAK victory to not only honor the George Washington's of yore, but also give their team the win and keeping them atop the Flight 1 standings!

Ben Franklin, making sure the net isn't too high.

Two clubs both looking for their first victory of the season squared off with Neema getting the home team on the board first with his first victory of the season in #1 singles! In #2 singles, veteran Chip squared off versus second-year player Dustin, and the tournament tested vet took the young 3.0 pup to the limit, narrowly falling in a SUPER TIE-BREAK as the youngster rallied to get his team back in the match. In doubles, Green's Jeff and Mark, playing for the third time together, showed exquisite communication in taking down two veterans of the 3.0 courts in Tim and Mickey, but Fairlawn immediately answered back (we assume, we weren't there, but according to the way the USTA writes up the results THIS IS EXACTLY HOW IT HAPPENED) as Captain Mike and veteran Douglas showed their 3.0 experience to even up the match. THUS FOR THE SECOND STRAIGHT MATCH IT WOULD COME DOWN TO #3 DOUBLES! The Founding 3.0 Fathers would no doubt be proud, and prouder still of the effort Brian and Donald put in before being forced to retire, giving their absolute all to their beloved Fairlawn Club! In the end, however, Captain Rob's leadership in the deciding match, proved the difference, getting Green their first team win of the young season!

Hamilton's early answer to line-call disagreements.

Mayfield, looking to bounce back from last week's loss, faced a tough road trip as they headed to Flight leader Western Reserve. The home team got on the board first as Steve enjoyed his second singles win of the season, but John J. King tied up the team score with his first win on the season. The two singles matches, though, were highlighted by the Mayfield's well known sameness, as both King's had the EXACT same score in their matches! WHOA! In doubles, Western Reserve's Captain Chris took the lead, giving his team just that, with his second doubles win on the year, but two of Mayfield's other King's (honestly, this is getting confusing, and at some point we're just going to call them King 1 and King 2), Rick and Karl (RicKarl?) evened up the team score 2-2 and ONCE AGAIN a match in Flight 1 headed to the SUPER TIE-BREAK! MVRC's Captain RJ took the helm himself and despite a valiant comeback attempt by Ovidiu and Tim, Captain RJ not only earned his first victory on the season, but, like a George Washington of yore, led his team to their second victory on the year!

Flight 2 Recaps

When you need a win, you need Denny. Which is the same thing!

Medina's premier tennis club - premier! - went 2-0 on the season at home as they enjoyed some home-cooking combined with a solid team victory versus travelling NCRC! In singles, the hardest hard hitting 3.0 player in all of Medina (and maybe all of Medina County!) enjoyed his second singles win on the season for his club as Matt enjoyed a 2-0 start, but NCRC's Robert answered back with his first win on the year! Tied up, doubles would play a key role, and in a back-and-forth nail biter in which zero games separated the two, the hard hitting Bogdan and the crafty Dustin pulled out the come-from-behind SUPER TIE-BREAK victory! Medina's resident future D.F.O. Hall of 3.0 Famer Roderick used his spin to try and clinch the match, but no doubt the flash from the numerous photographers interfered, and NCRC's Andy and Tom were able to take advantage to even up the team match 2-2! Thus it would come down to #2 doubles (which it may not have, as again, we weren't there, but it fits our narrative, so MAYBE it did?!). And in #2 doubles, one of the all-time best took the court for Medina, and with the undefeated Denny at the helm, everyone - everyone! - knows nothing can go wrong. And they were RIGHT, as Denny led rookie Paul to a big victory, made even bigger by the fact it clinched the match for his team!

Shane & Mike > John & Tom

CRC looked to keep their solid season start going as travelled east to Mentor, and things looked to stay solid as CRC singles standout Corey started things off with an impressive SUPER TIE-BREAK win! But Mentor leader, Captain Scott, rallied the Men o' Mentor, leading the way in #1 doubles, earning his first victory on the season! Also enjoying their first season victory, Amgad gave the home team their first lead with an impressive singles win while Mark and Anthony clinched the match, with Anthony enjoying his third win on the year! Also enjoying a third win were the doubles tag-team of Shane and Mike, who, having started their career together as an undefeated 3-0 tandem are showing the entire Flight that when it comes to teamwork, THEY in fact make the (3.0) dream work!

Wembley's David, getting ready to return a serve.

The top team in Flight 2 hosted the top 40+ team in a cross-over match like a Law & Order and SpongeBob cross-over (if that comparison makes no sense, then ... yeah). LaTuchie continued their strong start as in singles Ronald and Eric both enjoyed their fourth and third victories, respectively. Wembley's strength, though, is historically in doubles, and Wembley's David wasted little time flexing such strength as he and Captain Brandon continued their undefeated run, defeating two of the best players in the history of this season in a SUPER TIE-BREAK! Back in the match, and no doubt inspired by David's 3.0 muscle mass, teammates David and Mike enjoyed a comeback in their match to even the team score at 2-2. In the deciding match, Wembley's David made a match-deciding mistake, and donning a shirt and covering up his massively intimidating 3.0 muscle mass, allowed LaTuchie's Brandon and DReddy to recover as the pairing helped their team continue their 4-0 mark on the season!

Flight 3 Recaps

Force & Springside, pre-match.

In a matchup of southside versus westside, this was a doozy of a match similar to the tennis movie, Westside Story (which we've never seen but we're pretty certain is about tennis). Springside, enjoying their first 3.0 team in over five seasons, played like wily veterans rather than the young energetic kids they are, and despite being down early as veterans Adnan and Joseph got the visiting Force team off to a fast start, Springside evened up the match, highlighted by Gregory earning his third 3.0 doubles victory in as many tries! Thus the match could maybe (or maybe not) come down to the results on the singles courts, as Force free agent signee Travis faced off versus Springside rookie Earl. Travis, a four-year veteran of the 3.0 wars, combined his two most deadly traits, magnanimity with stupidity, and as the match went on he displayed magnanimity in giving

Earl, making the mistake of thinking Travis is smart.

Earl so many repeat first serves that both got confused as to not only what the score was but also where they were (both in location and in the game) and then stupidity when he forgot how tennis was actually played or which courts serves were supposed to go towards (to the claim that he is ignorant, Travis was heard to exclaim, "I don't know what you're talking about. Literally. What are you talking about?"). Earl, to his credit, laughed at Travis and his 45' trip back to the westside at approximately midnight after their marathon 90' tennis extravaganza that Travis somehow eeked out, giving Force a slight lead. On the next court, rookie Wael faced off versus hard hitting rookie

None of these people are actually awake.

Collin, who's blistering forehands and serves tested the impressive defense of Wael. In a great display of hustle by both players, it was defense that won the day as the Force rookie sealed the deal for his new team, thus earning the applause of the crowd, a crowd that was only half asleep due to the late hour of the match. Yet, despite their sleep deprivation, Force could enjoy an early season Flight topping 2-0 start while Springside could enjoy actually getting home while it was still technically Monday.

Brian and Tom, post-match.

Bay continued their winning streak and return to form under Captain Mark's stewardship, splitting the singles courts with their neighborhood rival Westlake as rookie Dietrich continued his fine season, winning his second 3.0 singles match in a row! Ryan, in #2 singles, bounced back from last week's tough three set SUPER TIE-BREAKER loss to get back on the winning side, thus evening the team match up at 1-1. But Captain Mark had a few aces up his sleeve, one such ace being grizzled veterans Tom and Brian, two of the best Bay 3.0 doubles players in the history of Bay 3.0 doubles! The elderly statesmen of Bay 3.0 tennis gave their club a brief 2-1 lead before Captain Mark's free agent signees Ted and Mike showed why they may be in the running for D.F.O. Free Agent 3.0 Signing of the Year (that sounds like a totally legit award) as they held on, despite a valiant comeback by Westlake's Jeff and Brian, to not only win their second matches of the season, but to also help Bay start the Flight 3 season undefeated!

40+ Recaps

A reenactment of Debabrata v. Abhi.

These neighborly rivals faced off with Captain Robert looking to keep Paramount's undefeated streak alive while Force's Captain John looked to get their first win of their inaugural 40+ season! Force free agent Adam showed why he was such a high-profile signing, getting his first win for his new club in #1 singles while Paramount's Debabrata enjoyed his first career 3.0 singles win ever over former doubles partner Abhi ... oh the tennis civil war intrigue! In doubles, Captain John joined forced with Jim as the pair enjoyed their second win together, but the big news was Captain Robert enjoying career 3.0 victory #79 while teammate Robert sealed the team victory with career 3.0 victory #51! SO MUCH 3.0 WINNING!

NO RESULTS! For the second 40+ week in a row, a match didn't have results! Was it because of secrets? Did Towpath get lost going to Bradley Courts because the GPS takes you to the wrong place? Or was it a wash out? SO MANY QUESTIONS!

Medina was searching for their first team win of the season and found it all the way on the east side in Chagrin! Medina's hard charging Patrick continued his fine season, enjoying his third 3.0 win of the season, this one on the #1 singles court, but CVAC's Captain Steve countered with his third win of the season as well! TIT FOR TAT! Thus, the doubles matches would be the deciding factor! Medina's Denny and Will, two of the winningest players in 3.0 history, tag-teamed to earn their combined 100+ win, meaning that together, they're worth their weight in 3.0 gold! WHICH IS A LOT OF GOLD! Medina's Captain Rob then showed the true leader he is by helping to clinch the match and the first team win of the season for his crew!

The official LaTuchie headquarters.

What rhymes with "we never lose"? That's right! "LATUCHIE!" The club from Stow continued their unbeaten streak as they hosted a NCRC team hungry for wins! Scott continued his unbeaten singles streak by staying UNBEATEN while Ronald earned his world leading (WORLD!) seventh 3.0 win on of the year across all leagues! In doubles, Jeff and Chris enjoyed their second win as a tandem in as many tries and though the team results were in, NCRC showed true grit as Chester and Tony enjoyed their first 3.0 wins on the season!

Summary

What's clockwork, taxes, and double faulting on a big point all have in common? It's as guaranteed as a LaTuchie win! The club from Stow once again leads all flights in all areas in all possible ways, making this reporter think one thing - THANK GOODNESS THEY'RE NOT ON HIS SCHEDULE!
