2023

The 3.0er of the Year - Travis Haselswerdt

(Force)

Singles Player of the Year - Nathan Chavez

(Force)

Doubles Player of the Year - Robert Haught

(MVRC)

Doubles Team of the Year - Brandon Carrus & Robert Haught

(MVRC)

Captain of the Year - Jeremy Benjamin (Force) &

Robert Haught (MVRC)

Special 3.0er of the Year - Denis Zaharija

(Force & MVRC)

You can't spell "3.0" without NEO!

With the historic seasons that both Rocky River Force and Mayfield Village Racquet Club enjoyed, it's no surprise that players from both clubs swept the 2023 D.F.O. awards! With the most wins on the season and the third most all-3.0-time (40), Travis racked up his fourth 3.0er of the Year Award in the last half-decade, showing he may be the ultimate in 3.0 technology. Teammate Nathan, meanwhile, finished tied with the most singles wins (21) but became only the second 3.0er ever to accrue double-digit playoff wins (10), thus illustrating his clutch play all season long! Helping lead both of them, and their entire team, would be Captain of the Year, Captain Jeremy, who not only became the only 18+ Captain to ever lead two 18+ clubs to Nationals ('21 and '23), but also set the all-3.0-time playoff wins record as a Captain along the way to earning his second Captain of the Year award in the last three 3.0 seasons!

Meanwhile, MVRC's Captain Robert led his club to Nationals as well, notching the most regular season wins along the way to his first ever Captain of the Year award. But he didn't just lead off the court, he led on it as well, earning the Doubles Player of the Year award as he became only the third 3.0er ever - ever! - to attain 30 doubles wins in a single season! But he didn't do that alone (which would be impressive considering it's doubles), and he and long-time tag-team member Brandon, thanks to winning in league, tournament, and playoff play, combined with their double-digit victories as a tandem, earned the coveted Doubles Team of the Year award!

NEO racked up one more award, the Special 3.0er of the Year award, as Denis - who played for both clubs - was recognized for his key contributions on both the 18+ and 40+ teams, making him the only Ohio 3.0er to ever - ever! - represent two different clubs at Nationals in the same calendar year!

2022

Timothy and Matthew, almost taking all the D.F.O. awards by themselves!

The 3.0er of the Year - Matthew Johnston

(NCRC)

Singles Player of the Year - Nicholas Fasola

(MVRC)

Doubles Player of the Year - Matthew Johnston

(NCRC)

Doubles Team of the Year - Timothy Booher & Matthew Johnston

(NCRC)

Captain of the Year - Timothy Booher & Matthew Johnston

(NCRC)

Setting the all-3.0-time single-season wins record (48!) made NCRC's Matthew the consensus 3.0er of the Year winner, but he wasn't done collecting D.F.O. hardware there! Indeed, with a record 44 of those wins coming in doubles, he was also the Doubles Player of the Year. BUT HE STILL WASN'T DONE! Crushing the previous tag-team record and playing together over 40 times, Matthew and Timothy were rightly awarded the Doubles Team of the Year award. And in a D.F.O. first, they also shared the Captain of the Year award for even though Timothy was the winning Captain of three teams, Matthew was there as co-Captain for each and every victory, victories that saw NCRC's 18+ team earn the best ever O-H-I-O Nationals finish (4th)! Preventing the clean NCRC sweep, however, was a singles player who set records of his own. With wins in league, tournament, and playoff play, MVRC's Nicholas set a new record for singles wins in a single-season (33) en route to earning the Singles Player of the Year award!

2021

The 3.0er of the Year - Travis Haselswerdt (Force)

Singles Player of the Year - Scott Hovey (LaTuchie)

Doubles Player of the Year - John Prince (Force)

Doubles Team of the Year - James McGlone & John Prince (Force)

Captain of the Year - Jeremy Benjamin (Force)

Team Force, inspired by LaTuchie's Scott Hovey!

With the most wins (30) for the third year in a row, Travis three-peated as The 3.0er of the Year, while teammate John, setting the all-3.0-time record for doubles wins in a season (26), enjoyed his own repeat on the doubles courts, taking the Doubles Player of the Year award. John didn't play doubles alone, however, and thanks to the fantastic league and playoff play of his best friend and partner James, the pair were named Doubles Team of the Year (also a repeat for John!). Leading them to their success, both individually and as a team that qualified to Nationals with the best every 18+ finish (8th) was the Captain of the Year, Jeremy! The Force clean-sweep of postseason awards looked to be complete as Travis had the most singles wins of any 3.0er, and in fact became only the second 3.0er ever to hit the 30 win mark as well (Mayu Si, '18), but thanks to the 3.0 legend that is LaTuchie's Scott, said sweep was prevented thanks to Scott's dominating league season in which he lost but one match (!) to bring much pride to his LaTuchie dojo as he rightly won the Singles Player of the Year award!

2020

The 3.0er of the Year - Travis Haselswerdt (Bay Village)

Singles Player of the Year - Travis Haselswerdt (Bay Village)

Doubles Player of the Year - John Prince (Force)

Doubles Team of the Year - Scott Mellino & John Prince (Force)

Captain of the Year - David Diefenthaler (Shadow Valley)

In a covid plagued year that limited playing and participation, Travis, by virtue of ending the year with the most singles (23) and most overall wins (29) on the season earned his second straight 3.0er of the Year award and, thanks in part to his record-tying three tournament victories (Atahan Koymen, '11), also his first ever Singles Player of the Year award (which may explain the wins, the covid, that is). The tag-team partners of Scott and John, the only tandem to enjoy double-digit wins, with wins coming in league, tournament, and playoff play, were the overhead smash choice for Doubles Team of the Year while John, thanks to leading all doubles players in wins (14) took his first Doubles Player of the Year award as he helped lead his club to a District title. But it was David from NWO who took home the Captain of the Year honors, thanks to having the most league wins en route to a Flight and District team title for his beloved Shadow Valley!

2019

The 3.0er of the Year - Travis Haselswerdt (Bay Village)

Singles Player of the Year - Roger Lee (CVAC)

Doubles Player of the Year - Craig Warner (Towpath)

Doubles Team of the Year - Michael Garza & Camron Whitacre (Ketterington)

Captain of the Year - Camron Whitacre (Ketterington)

With 24 overall wins, Travis took home The 3.0er of the Year award but it was Roger who, thanks to his league dominance, took home Singles Player of the Year honors. Craig, thanks to his Ohio leading doubles wins (15) was honored as the Doubles Player of the Year while Dayton area stars Michael and Camron dominated in league and playoffs to take the Doubles Team of the Year award while Captain Camron, who lead his club to Nationals, won Captain of the Year as well!

2018

NCRC's record tying, breaking, and setting club!

The 3.0er of the Year - Mayu Si (NCRC)

Singles Player of the Year - Mayu Si (NCRC)

Doubles Player of the Year - Clayton Cundiff (NCRC)

Doubles Team of the Year - Trayton Crow & Clayton Cundiff (NCRC)

Captain of the Year - Clayton Cundiff (NCRC)

It was a clean NCRC sweep (the first time since Quail Run, '12) as Captain Clayton's club tied the all-3.0-time 40+ finish with a 3rd place Nationals result! But Clayton didn't just lead from the sidelines, he led on the court as well, and he and teammate Trayton dominated in the playoffs to earn Doubles Team of the Year status. While that was an award repeat for Clayton, he didn't stop there, and, for before his 3.0 career was done, he set the all-3.0-time record for playoff wins (19), and thus earned Doubles Player of the Year honors as well! Speaking of all-3.0-time records, Mayu became the first 3.0er ever - ever! - to not only achieve 30+ wins, but to achieve 30 singles wins! His league, tournament, and playoff wins were not just impressive, but historic, and made him the unanimous choice for Singles Player of the Year and The 3.0er of the Year awards!

2017

Team Towpath (and some of Team NCRC), one of the most historic 3.0 clubs around!

The 3.0er of the Year - James Schulte

(Towpath)

Singles Player of the Year - Kevin Le

(NCRC)

Doubles Player of the Year - James Schulte

(Towpath)

Doubles Team of the Year - Clayton Cundiff & Jondavid Smith

(NCRC)

Captain of the Year - Michael Kramer

(Towpath)

Even though the awards were split between two historic clubs, many of the winners were teammates as they split their time between the various 18+ and 40+ teams that both clubs offered, showing that everyone could be a winner! The big winners, however, were Captain Michael, who was honored for leading Towpath to one of it's best finishes ever, while rivals (and teammates!) Clayton and Jondavid proved to be the strongest tandem of the year. Their teammate Kevin took home Singles Player of the Year recognition thanks to his expert play in all three phases while Towpath's James broke his own record in both doubles (25) and overall wins (28) to repeat as The 3.0er of the Year, the first to do so in over a decade (Barry Bastian, '03-'04)!

2016

James, setting 3.0 records left and right ... and middle!

The 3.0er of the Year - James Schulte

(Towpath)

Singles Player of the Year - Matt Birkbeck

(Towpath)

Doubles Player of the Year - James Schulte

(Towpath)

Doubles Team of the Year - Christopher Hartman & Kyle Webb

(Quail Run)

Captain of the Year - Michael Dadaian

(Quail Run)

Captain Michael's wins in league and playoff play earned the Dayton area Quail Run it's first ever postseason D.F.O. honor while his teammates Chris and Kyle took home the Doubles Team of the Year award honors thanks to their brilliant undefeated league and playoff play. Up in NEO, records were set a plenty, as Matt, thanks to enjoying the most overall wins, taking home his first ever tournament title, and winning in all three phases, became the first ever 3.0er to repeat his Singles Player of the Year status in an incredibly crowded field. Speaking of records, The 3.0er of the Year could go to none other than Towpath's James, a player whose 25 wins shattered the previous single-season record!

2015

The 3.0er of the Year - William Fox (Towpath)

Singles Player of the Year - Matt Birkbeck (Towpath)

Doubles Player of the Year - William Fox (Towpath)

Doubles Team of the Year - Ron Novak & William Fox (Towpath)

Captain of the Year - Kyle Webb (Kettering Tennis Center)

Captain Kyle won the 2015 Captain of the Year award thanks to leading his club to the most victories on the season as well as a trip to Nationals, which is also where most of the Towpath roster ended up as well! Ron and William, undefeated in the playoffs, won Doubles Team of the Year recognition while William, thanks to dominating the courts of doubles and enjoying the most 3.0 wins on the season, won The 3.0er of the Year award! On the singles courts, their teammate Matt helped keep the Towpath trophy case full as he, thanks to his double-digit wins, took the Singles Player of the Year award back to Akron as well!

2014

Ken (blue) racing to an all-3.0-time best 40+ team finish!

The 3.0er of the Year - Jason Petrik (LaTuchie)

Doubles Player of the Year - Jason Petrik (LaTuchie)

Doubles Team of the Year - Colt McCutcheon & Jason Petrik (LaTuchie)

Captain of the Year - Ken Frost (LaTuchie)

It was a NEO sweep as famed clubs LaTuchie and Towpath took all the major - major! - D.F.O. awards 2014 had to offer! LaTuchie's Jason, thanks to claiming the most wins (19) on the season, was honored with The 3.0er of the Year, Doubles Player of the year, and, with partner Colt, Doubles Team of the Year status. Across town, Towpath's Matthew, winner of the esteemed Akron Open, enjoyed wins in all three phases of 3.0 play, helping him hoist the Singles Player of the Year award in a very, very crowded field! But the standout player - and Captain! - of the season was LaTuchie's Ken, who lead his club to a 3rd place 40+ finish at Nationals, the best in O-H-I-O 3.0 history!

2013

Bryan, one of the top 3.0ers in all of O-H-I-O!

The 3.0er of the Year - Bryan Douville & Mark OConnell (Perrysburg Tennis Center)

Singles Player of the Year - Kevin Walker (Bay Village Rec)

Doubles Player of the Year - Mark OConnell (Perrysburg Tennis Center)

Doubles Team of the Year - Clark Conley & Mark OConnell (Perrysburg Tennis Center)

Captain of the Year - Christopher Cunningham (Perrysburg Tennis Center)

Claiming the most wins of the year and leading his team to Nationals, Captain of the Year Christopher had several stand out players to lean on! Clark and Mark dominated the doubles courts while Mark, playing with other partners when Captain Christopher needed team flexibility, earned even more wins to take home the Doubles Player of the Year award. Meanwhile, teammate Bryan, who did the same, notched an identical record (17-3), meaning the two would proudly split The 3.0er of the Year award. Kevin, meanwhile, thanks to his impressive performances in both league and playoff play, brought Bay Village Rec their first ever D.F.O. award, the Singles Player of the Year award!

2012

Ken Griffy Jr., standing next to a true legend ... Derek Kohanski!

The 3.0er of the Year - Derek Kohanski (Western Reserve)

Doubles Player of the Year - Stephen Nicolai & William S. Graessle (Western Reserve)

Doubles Team of the Year - Stephen Nicolai & William S. Graessle (Western Reserve)

Captain of the Year - Stephen Sferra (Western Reserve)

For the first time in D.F.O. history, it was a clean sweep for one club, and that one club was none other than Western Reserve! Leading the way, Captain Stephen was able to have his team qualify to Nationals all the way from the Qualifying round as stalwart doubles tandem Stephen and William led the way with an impressive 12-3 overall mark. On the singles courts, Derek lead all players in singles wins (10) and overall wins (16), leading him to proudly hoist not one but two end of season D.F.O. awards!

2011

This isn't Richard or John, but rather Son and Michael, the Doubles Team of the Year vice-champions who wanted to have their picture taken with them! What respect!

The 3.0er of the Year - Marcus McDorman (Ketterington)

Singles Player of the Year - Marcus McDorman (Ketterington)

Doubles Player of the Year - Richard Guinto & John Vandeursen (Ketterington)

Doubles Team of the Year - Richard Guinto & John Vandeursen (Ketterington)

Captain of the Year - Kyle Webb (Quail Run)

The Dayton area dominated the 2011 rendition of the D.F.O. postseason awards with Captain Kyle winning Captain of the Year thanks to his double-digit winning season. Kettering, meanwhile, swept the remaining awards as Richard and John shared the doubles accolades as both shared equally impressive equal-win seasons! On the singles courts, their teammate Marcus enjoyed a dominating season, so dominating he also dominated the D.F.O. awards, winning both the Singles Player of the Year and The 3.0er of the Year!

Doubles Player of the Year - Vikram Kashyap (Cleveland Racquet Club)

Doubles Team of the Year - Vikram Kashyap & Bradley J. Schlang (Cleveland Racquet Club)

Captain of the Year - Dean Berry (Cleveland Racquet Club)

Captain of the Year Dean lead his CRC club all the way to Nationals despite a runner-up finish in their Flight, a come-from-behind underdog story of epic 3.0 proportions! But thanks to star players like Vikram and Bradley (Doubles Team of the Year), such dreams are no doubt possible! Speaking of Vikram, his winning season (13) earned him postseason honors from the D.F.O. as he was honored as both the Doubles Player of the Year and The 3.0er of the Year! In singles, the voting was split, as three players tied with nine singles wins a piece, but in the end the Voting Panel split the award between Atahan, who became the first 3.0er ever to win three tournament titles in a single year, and Howard, who dominated league and playoff play!

With partner John Turley, the pair won Doubles Team of the Year and with his 15 total wins, Robert was named Doubles Player of the Year as well as The 3.0er of the Year as well! WIth so much talent on Towpath, it's no wonder that their leader Brian, who won three team titles, was named Captain of the Year, too! That's not to say that other clubs weren't recognized, as for the second year in a row, a member of North Olmsted Rec, this time Keith, the first 3.0er to win both a singles and a doubles tournament in the same y (Clevear, was named Singles Player of the Year!

Working backwards, CVAC's Captain Chris was named Captain of the Year for steering his club to an Ohio State Championship while his dynamite doubles tandem Dave & Michael, thanks to their exact same winning record, were named both Doubles Team and Players of the Year! In singles, Nor

th Olmsted's Emanual, thanks to winning in league, tournament, and playoff play, took home N.O. Rec's first ever D.F.O. award, the Singles Player of the Year award! Indeed, Barry and Richard, tethered in 3.0 success throughout their 3.0 careers, three-peated as Doubles Team of the Year thanks to yet another double-digit winning season. They weren't dont there, however, as Barry became the first 3.0er ever to repeat as Doubles Player and The 3.0er of the Year! Barry would earn two more awards, this time individual awards, the Doubles Player of the Year and the Captain of the Year, thanks to having excellent winning season in both categories. Tied for the most wins (17), both he and Ketterington's Michael would split The 3.0er of the Year honor, as Barry's league leadership and play were recognized as was Michael's playoff prowess. Joining him in the on-court success was teammate Barry, and their double-digit wins together won them Doubles Team of the Year recognition! Meanwhile, in singles Subhash's record wins in singles (15), combined with the historic feat of winning the first ever 3.0 tournament, earned him the Singles Player of the Year while Captain Michael's 2nd place Midwest finish was evidence enough for Captain of the Year honors!

For the second year in a row, no tournament or state championship play took place, meaning the D.F.O. was forced to dig deep to find a worthy crew to be named D.F.O. 3.0 Players of the Year. And dig we did! And worthy they were! 2001 saw the first repeat as Edmond, the 2000 award winner for The 3.0er of the Year and the Doubles Player of the Year, repeated said award thanks to a second double-digit doubles performance in a row! Srini and Shashi could take solace, however, in the fact that even though the had tied for the season lead in overall wins (8), the were both named both the Doubles Players and Doubles Team of the Year award winners! SO MUCH SOLACE! And the solace continued as their leader, Captain Stephen, was named Captain of the Year thanks to enjoying the most captain wins in all of O-H-I-O!
