What Records Will Fall?!
As with every team, there are records to be held, records to be broken, and records that stand the test of time. As this is a 3.0 team, those records are, well ... adequate to the level of the rating of the players who set them.
Compliment accepted!
So which records look to be challenged in 2020?! (Click here to check out our all-time records)
Most Years Donn, after his first match this season, will tie Mark Jeffers as the longest tenured member of the Bay 3.0 team, matching him with a decade of 3.0 service! Erik, with his first official match, will enter his fifth year of service, tying him for 3rd all time, showing once and for all that Erik is half the man of Donn! Most Wins Tied for the most overall wins in Bay 3.0 history, Donn and Travis look to add to their totals and hopefully, because they are such good friends and are often mistaken for twins, end the year tied once again (hopefully with more wins, although being tied with zero more wins is also a possibility). With three more wins, Erik could tie Mark for third all-time and with four take third all by himself! So much talent on one team, what are the odds?! That being said, the most talented is no doubt Donn, who, when you combine his nomadic 3.0 tennis career that includes tenures at Racquet Club East (0-7s, 9-9d) as well as North Olmsted (4-2d), well, that puts his all-time 3.0 win total at an impressive 33, a number Travis and Erik can barely imagine, let alone count!
Most Matches Donn, currently at 71 Bay 3.0 matches, will tie fellow long-time Bay teammate Mark Jeffers with his next official match and, if he plays one more 2020 match after that, will take the all-time record! Long story short, if Donn shows up on time, the record is his! Which is why this one is still in doubt...
Most Singles Wins With one more singles win, Erik looks to tie Michael Heil for second all-time while with two more singles wins, Erik looks to take second place all-time in this category all by his lonesome! Proving once again, how lonely it is at the top... Travis, meanwhile, enjoys the record here and with a few more winning matches versus his nemesis De Fault is hoping to extend his lead in a book of records that is not really a book as much as it is a random assortment of numbers.
Most Doubles Wins Brian Chambers, currently with nine doubles wins, could move into third place all-time with three more wins in that category, tying George McGovern! Four, and third place is his all his! Setting the pace, though, once again is Donn, who is currently in first place and could extend his all-time record and just stat-pad his way to the Bay 3.0 record books as the season progresses!
Most 3rd Set Tie-Breaking Wins Kind of a random stat, yes, but when you're one of the worst 3.0 teams in all of Northeast Ohio, well, you latch on to what you can. And latch on Donn did! Currently leading with six 3rd Set Tie-Breaking Wins, Erik and Brian are right behind, tied for 2nd place all-time with five. Again, why count this stat? Again, as one of the traditionally-not-so-great teams in Northeast Ohio, it’s kind of funny how often our matches go down to the third and final set … which, well, we usually lose. But not these guys! So let’s celebrate marathon-like success!
Most Captain Wins
Rookie Captain David Karam can vault into the Bay 3.0 record books with his first team win by joining the top five all-time winningest Bay 3.0 captains EVER with – that’s right! - ONE win! Two wins on the season and Dave is suddenly tied for 3rd all time and an unthinkable FIVE wins puts Dave in the top two GREATEST Bay 3.0 captains … EVER!
Individual Records
Because, let's face it, at the end of the day, we're all in this for ourselves, here are some individual personal marks the crew looks to make this 2020 3.0 season:
David Karam - David's first win as captain will be his first win ... as captain!
Travis Haselswerdt - With 75 total 3.0 matches, Travis is entering Bull Durham Crash Davis territory, but with three more wins, he'll hit the big 5-0, as in "50" career 3.0 wins (which is either something to celebrate or something to mock).
Brian Chambers - With one more doubles win, Brian will hit doubles figures in doubles - and total - wins with an impressive 10!
Donald McLeroy - With 102 3.0 matches played, Donn could eclips 105 this season! Also, with two more doubles wins, Donn will hit his age ... 35!
Erik Overberger - If Erik can go three for three in his singles matches this season, he'll hit double figures with 10 singles wins!
Tony Slabicki - Tony's second official match will be his 10th total match for the Men o' Bay!
Charlie Post - With one more win, Charlie will hit 10 total win's in his 3.0 career!
Sean Curtin and Benjamin Shaw - Whatever both rookies do will be THE FIRST TIME THEY'VE EVER DONE ANYTHING!
Conclusion
While this years roster is small and the talent is, um, present, this 2020 rendition of the 3.0 Bay team looks to set some records in the greatest record book known to Bay 3.0 tennis! WHICH IS A TOTALLY ACCURATE STATEMENT!!
