2024 Akron Open Dubs Results!

The 20th rendition of the granddaddy of all 3.0 events just wrapped up with a nail-biting finish for the 3.0 ages!

The Format

A classic best-of-three, winner take all format ... just like the lesser-known Majors of the other tennis world (minus the best-of-five format)!

The Draw

At the top of the bracket, veteran William, was looking to add to his 2012 Akron Open Doubles championship while at the bottom of the bracket, Rymwen, the 2022 vice-champion, was looking to earn his first ever 3.0 trophy!

But getting the event started were newbies Anthony and Christian, who got off to a fast quarterfinal start before Diego and Chris, two of Towpath's very own, literally got back in the game to force a second set overtime session! Anthony and Christian, however, playing in their third event together, knew the score (which is important in tennis, as it turns out) and won the match in thrilling fashion!

Unfortunately for them, they ran into the hard-hitting Rymwen, and Rymwen, with 3.0 vengeance on his 3.0 mind, led his rookie partner Sano to a hard-fought, but well-earned, semifinal victory!

Thus, the final would pit the veteran 65+ 3.0 skills of William and Tom versus the not-even-65-plus-combined skills of Rymwen and Sano! The fresh legs of the youngsters got off to the quick first set start but thanks to the veteran savvy of their opponents, the match was soon destined for a THIRD SET SUPER TIEBREAKER! Back and forth this one went (which is also important in tennis) but in the end it was raw power and youth that was - wait for it - served (hey oh!) on this very day!

And with that, Rymwen avenged his 2022 defeat while William added another vice-championship to his already chock-full 3.0 trophy case! Congrats to all!
