2023 Akron Open Doubles Championships!

Updated: Jul 30, 2023

The final 3.0 event of the 19th annual Akron Open, the 3.0 doubles championships, took place with a combination of legends, newbies, and ... winning!

Team Previews

Ron and William, tourney champs as recently as 2022!

William Fox/Ron Novak ... Towpath ... experience, experience, and experience, that's what William and Ron have, and loads of it! With well over 25+ career 3.0 dubs matches together, these two know the one another's games like the back of their own ... um ... backhand ... ? With three combined dubs tourney titles to their names, including the '22 Towpath title, these two know their way around their home dubs courts with a crafty mix of veteran 3.0 savvy!

Abhijit Borawake/Suhas Londhe ... Center Court ... these two self-rated 3.0 newbies are playing like anything but, and stand 6-3 on the season with wins coming at 3.0 and the nearly professional level of 3.5! Dominating the net with some of the best overheads in the 3.0 business, they may be new to the tournament scene, but watch out or else an overhead smash will be coming your way!

Christian Kellamis/Anthony Mazzaferri ... Green/NCRC ... two more self-rated 3.0 rookies, this pairing isn't just new to the 3.0 scene, new to the tour, but also new to one-another!

Team Predictions

D.F.O. Maths Expert Jeff, 1-0 so far this Akron Open!

While there are only three teams in this 3.0 event, each brings something unique to this rendition of the Akron Open! William and Ron, the hometown heros, bring loads of experience, with over 400 matches (!), five tournament titles, two D.F.O. Player of the Year awards, and one national championship! Meanwhile, Abhi and Suhas bring pure, raw, 3.0 power, and if you can't lob them, maybe you shouldn't even try! Finally, dark horses Christian and Anthony have no pressure, which means they'll likely put pressure on the opposition!

So what does D.F.O. Maths Expert Jeff, who correctly predicted the singles event, predict for THIS event?!

"Power."

WHOA! Clearly that means congratulations are in order to Abhi and Suhas, who's powerful net game may be too much for any other team to overcome!

Results (check back for updated results!)

Day One - Abhi/Suhas d. Christian/Anthony 6-3, 6-3

Day Two - William/Ron d. Christian/Anthony 3-6, 6-2, 10-8

Day Two - Abhi/Suhas d William/Ron 6-3, 6-2

In the end, it was power that won the day over experience as two self-rated 3.0 stars took home their first ever 3.0 title! Making their maiden 3.0 tourney voyage all the sweeter is that as members of Center Court, they're taking but that club's second 3.0 title this season, joining teammates Kishore and Pradeep as 3.0 trophy owners!

Congratulations to all the 3.0ers out there on yet another fantastic Akron Open and good luck the rest of your 3.0 season!
