Matthew and Timothy, in their matching* purple, surrounded by their joyous NCRC teammates!

Setting the all-3.0-time single-season wins record (48!) made NCRC's Matthew the consensus 3.0er of the Year winner, but he wasn't done collecting D.F.O. hardware there! Indeed, with a record 44 of those wins coming in doubles, he was also the Doubles Player of the Year. BUT HE STILL WASN'T DONE! Crushing the previous tag-team record and playing together over 40 times, Matthew and Timothy were rightly awarded the Doubles Team of the Year award. And in a D.F.O. first, they also shared the Captain of the Year award for even though Timothy was the winning Captain of three teams, Matthew was there as co-Captain for each and every victory, victories that saw NCRC's 18+ team earn the best ever O-H-I-O Nationals finish (4th)! Preventing the clean NCRC sweep, however, was a singles player who set records of his own. With wins in league, tournament, and playoff play, MVRC's Nicholas set a new record for singles wins in a single-season (33) en route to earning the Singles Player of the Year award!

Nicholas, enjoying one of the best 3.0 singles seasons in 3.0 singles history!

Meanwhile, on the courts of singles, few players enjoyed as successful a singles season as MVRC's very own Nicholas, who's nearly undefeated 19-1 league record helped guide his club to a Flight title and the #1 seed in the 18+ District playoffs where the second year 3.0er enjoyed his first ever playoff win! Adding to his illustrious record-breaking season, he also took home 10+ tournament wins, culminating in a tournament title in the very last tour event of the 3.0 tour, the Green Open Championships! When all was said and done, Nicholas' Flight championship, tournament title, and 32 singles wins, the most ever in 3.0 history BY THE WAY, were more than worthy of the highest honor a 3.0er can ever achieve ... EARNING D.F.O. SINGLES PLAYER OF THE YEAR HONORS!

Timothy and Matthew, co-captains, doubles partners, friends, and most of all ... Players of the Year!

Few doubles tandems have had as much doubles success in all three phases of 3.0 doubles play than Timothy and Matthew, who dominated league, tournament, and playoff play during their 2022 season. TOGETHER! In league play, the duo enjoyed double-digit victories, taking home 10+ wins. In tournament play, they took home both a Vice-Championship and a Championship-Championship, first at NTRP's and then hoisting their first ever tourney title but a few days later at the historic Akron Open. Finally, in playoff play, the pair once again earned double-figures wins, going 14-5 en route to helping both their 18+ and 40+ team gain Flight, District, and State titles before leading the 18+ group to not just Nationals, but a fourth place Final Four Nationals finish as well, the best ever in O-H-I-O 3.0 18+ history! IN HISTORY! When all was said and done, this duo, with the most calendar wins in D.F.O. history, were locks for the most prestigious yearly award (all true, btw) the D.F.O. presents! Congratulations, gents!

Meanwhile, Captaining three clubs is no easy task, but Captain Timothy did so with aplomb, earning 20+ team victories en route to one Flight runner-up, two Flight titles, two District titles, two State titles, one Midwest title, and a no-expenses paid trip to Nationals! And once they paid for that expensive trip to Nationals, they didn't stop their record-breaking captaining season until they had enjoyed the greatest single 18+ 3.0 season in Ohio 3.0 history, a final four 4th place finish! Along the way, Captain Timothy's 20+ league wins and 10+ playoff wins were not only a D.F.O. records, but good enough for the D.F.O. Captain's of the Year award!

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!

Matt, winning two tournies in one year and being crowned National 3.0 Champion!

Because we said "CAPTAIN'S" of the year ... plural! Yes, that's right! In a D.F.O. first, the award was shared ... by Captain Timothy and Co-Captain Matthew! Indeed, not only were these two side-by-side on the doubles courts, but as captain's as well, as Matthew was the co-captain of every team aforementioned! What a tandem! Congratulations Timothy and Matthew!

When it came to specialness, few were as special as CVAC's Matt, who not only ran the 2.0 gamut at the NTRP 40+ event but also did the same at the National event the same year, making him the only 3.0er in Ohio history to achieve such special - and thus Special 3.0er of the Year! - accolades!

Nominees

Voting Notes

In both singles and doubles, the voting was pretty straight forward, for as 2022 wound down, Nicholas in singles and Timothy and Matthew in doubles had simply enjoyed two of the best 3.0 seasons in 3.0 history in their respective specialties, just blowing away all previous 3.0 records en route to two magically fantastic 3.0 seasons!

In singles, though, a late challenge emerged in the name of Matt Greenberg, who had accomplished something no other 3.0er had ever achieved - National Championship status! That's right, Matt won not one but two tournaments in 2022, the Midwest Sectional Championships held at the posh CVAC courts before going undefeated at the National Championships in some po-dunk place called "San Diego." WHOA! Not only that, Matt had defeated Nathan head-to-head in league singles, albeit by the slimmest of margins, in a THIRD SET SUPER TIE-BREAKER! In the end, though, despite the head-to-head win and the two tourney titles, and the National Championship status, the Voting Panel simply couldn't ignore Nicholas' fantastic - and historic! - 3.0 season, one in which he set the all-3.0-time record for singles wins in a season!

Doubles voting was over in about seven seconds. No offense to any of the other nominees, but boy-howdy, Timothy and Matthew had a season for the 3.0 record books as their 30 wins as a tandem were the most ever in recorded 3.0 history!

As for the captain'ing votes, while there were several fine nominees, Timothy simply enjoyed one of the greatest single captain'ing seasons in 3.0 history. Making this all the more special, though, is that his long-time doubles partner Matthew wasn't just side-by-side with him on the court, but in the captain's booth as well, as the three paired together for all three of their 3.0 teams!

Congrats to all the winners, all the nominees, and check back soon for the D.F.O. Hall of 3.0 Fame ceremony! (which is just us posting about it, but still, it's KINDA ceremonious...)
