Now that the USTA has released the updated NTRP ratings, it's that time of year again ... time for the annual D.F.O. Player of the Year awards!


Congratulations to the following list of amazing 3.0ers who have all had amazing 3.0 seasons! Which will be selected to be one of the greatest honors ever bestowed (at least by us, the D.F.O.)? We'll reveal the results by December 15th!

Player of the Year Nominees


Nicholas Fasola*2

Congrats on your promoted to 3.5, Nicholas, and good luck in the Player of the Year voting!

Tournament: 12-6 singles (13-8 overall), Midwest 40+ NTRP Sectional 4th place (2-3), Midwest 40+ NTRP Sectional Doubles 4th place (1-2), Feather Sound Florida C.C. Champion (2-0), Midwest Independence Open Quarters (2-2), Akron Open 3rd Place (2-2), Green Open Champion (3-0)

League: 19-1 singles

Playoffs: 1-1 singles

Key Matches: In tournament play, defeated Benjamin Young and Matthew Johnston at Akron Open; defeated 2021 GOC Champion George Roth before falling to 2021 D.F.O. Hall of 3.0 Famer Travis Haselswerdt at NTRP Sectional Championships. In league play, narrowly lost 6-7, 7-6, 0-1 to NTRP Sectional Champion Matt Greenberg. His 32 singles wins are the most all-3.0-time in a single 3.0 single season (Mayu Si, 2018, had 30).

Overall: 32-8 singles, 1-2 doubles, 33-10 overall


Nathan Gauthier*4

Tournament: 3-1, Launchpad Champion (2-0), NWO NTRP 3rd place (1-1)

League: 10-3 doubles

Playoffs: 2-0 doubles

Overall: 3-1 singles, 12-3 doubles, 15-4 overall


Matt Greenburg*2

Tournament: 9-0, Midwest 40+ NTRP Sectional Champion (4-0), USTA National 40+ NTRP Champion (5-0)

League: 2-0

Key Matches: In tournament play, defeated two-time Player of the Year Ron Novak and three-time Player of the Year Travis Haselswerdt en route to Sectional Championship. In league play, defeated 2022 GOC Champion Nicholas Fasola 7-6, 6-7, 1-0.

Overall: 11-0 singles, 11-0 overall


Todd Lenet*1

Tournament: 4-0, Akron Open Champion (4-0)

League: 8-1 singles, 2-1 doubles

Playoffs: 1-0 singles

Key Matches: Defeated two-time tournament winner Nicholas Fasola en route to Akron Open title.

Overall: 12-1 singles, 2-1 doubles, 14-2 overall


Tony Mazzarella*2

Doubles Team of the Year Nominees


Timothy Booher*3 & Matthew Johnston*2

With over 30 wins to their name, can anything stop this doubles tandem?!

Tournament: 7-3 Midwest NTRP Vice-Champions (2-1), National 40+ NTRP Doubles Championships Vice-Champions (2-2), Akron Open Doubles Champions (3-0)

League: 10-2

Playoffs: 14-5, Nationals Final Four

Key Matches: Fell to Steve Constantino and Douglas Dempsey in Midwest NTRP finals, but defeated one-time Doubles Team of the Year Craig Warner and John Consilio in same event. In league play, defeated famed doubles players Craig Warner (twice), Frank Licari, and John Consilio while in playoffs defeated one-time Doubles Team of the Year player William Fox as well as 100 win 3.0er Robert Corts.

Overall: 31-14


Steve Constantino*10 & Douglas Dempsey*6

Doug and Steve, two of the top doubles players in the 3.0 nation!

Tournament: 7-1, Midwest NTRP Champions (3-0), National 40+ Doubles Championships 3rd Place (4-1)

Eric Bissell - LaTuchie

League: 9-1, 18+ runner-up

Playoffs: 0-1

Key Matches: Led re-tooled LaTuchie to playoffs helped by wins over eventual Flight Champion Mayfield as well as two league season wins over long-time 3.0 Captain J.P. of Wembley.

Total Record: 9-2


Timothy Booher - North Canton Racquet Club

League: 25-4, Flight Champion 18+ and 40+, Runner-up Fusion 6.0

Playoffs: 15-5, 18+ NEO District, State, Midwest Champion and 4th Place Nationals finish; 40+ NEO District and State Champion, Midwest runner-up

Key Matches: In 18+ league, won Flight on final matchday thanks to a 5-0 victory over Springside, then overcame an opening District loss to #1 seed Mayfield to hoist title thanks to tie-breakers with a revenge win over legendary Towpath and long-time winning 3.0 Captain Frank, the only team they had fallen too in league play. At State, defeated two notable clubs, Fallen Timbers and Quail Run, to repeat Ohio's trip to Nationals from last season by going undefeated in Midwest play. In 40+ league, won Flight on final matchday thanks to a 3-2 win over Avon Oaks. Avenged only league loss to North Ridge with a playoff win to be crowned District Champions.

Robert Corts - North Ridge

League: 12-4, 40+ Flight runner-up, 55+ 3rd Place

Playoffs: 1-1, NEO 40+ District runner-up

Key Matches: Enjoyed league wins over long-time 3.0 Captain's Frank and J.P. of Towpath and Wembley, respectively, before leading club to first playoff win in recent memory to finish 2nd at Districts.

Key Matches: Went on eight match winning streak to win NWO Flight by one win, including a 4-1 team win over D.F.O. Hall of 3.0 Famer Captain James Jacobs.

Robert Haught - Mayfield Village Racquet Club

League: 9-1, 18+ Flight Champion

Districts: 1-1

Key Matches: Won Flight Title in rookie season, enjoying two wins over long-time 3.0 Captain J.P.'s Wembley. In Districts, opened up with win over eventual District Champion NCRC before finishing 3rd thanks to tie-breakers.

John Keller - Paramount Westlake

League: 6-2, 18+ Flight Champion

Playoffs: 0-1

Key Matches: Went on four match winning streak to win first Flight Championship, including late-season wins over long-time 3.0 Captain's Jeremey and Mark.

Fred Levy - Scarborough East

League: 5-3, Flight Champion

Playoffs: 2-1, Ohio Valley 18+ District runner-up

Total Record: 7-4


Frank Licari - Towpath

League: 16-4, 18+ runner-up, 40+ 4th Place

Playoffs: 2-1, 18+ NEO District runner-up

Key Matches: Went on a six match winning streak in 18+ to finish runner up, including a win over eventual Flight Champion NCRC before falling them in the District finals. In 40+, finished fourth, but did enjoy a win over long-time veteran 3.0 Captain J.P. and Wembley.

Playoffs: 4-1, Ohio Valley 18+ District Champion, State runner-up
