2021 Wooster Aspen Championships ...

Updated: Aug 1, 2023

... are here! The fourth major* event of the 3.0 tour* is upon us! The last - at least as far as we know - 3.0 tournament in Ohio, taking place at the palatial and extravagant Wooster Aspen Racquet Club, is the final chance for aspiring 3.0ers to make 3.0 history by gaining a 3.0 tournament title!

Currently the third longest running event in the land (i.e., Ohio), the WAC (as those in the know like to call it), posits many, many questions! Will Travis become the first ever 3.0er to three-peat a title run?

No! Due to political reasons (i.e., his wife won't let him go), he's not attending the event, meaning there will be a brand new WAC Champion!

So who is attending? Who has the best chances to win? Who will win?! Find out here!

3.0 Singles

(Players previewed by date they signed up, because, as we said above, "availability is sometimes the best ability")

Brandon Carrus

Brandon, showing that if you look good, you play good!

Record: 3-7 in singles ...

TennisRecord.Com Rating: 2.85 ...

Singles Tournament Experience/Highlights: Second event ... finished as a semi-finalist at the 2021 NTRP Championships!

Pros: With over 70 matches to his name, most at the higher and more difficult (and nearly professional!) 3.5 level and beyond, Brandon brings a vast array of tennis playing experience to the event ... neumonically, you simply cannot spell "won" without BranDON ... primarily a doubles player throughout his career, Brandon no doubt brings an all-court, well-rounded game to the tournament that will surely cause his opponents problems ...

Cons: Primarily a doubles player throughout his career, will Brandon be able to handle the solitude, forlornness, despair, detachment, singleness, lonesomeness, aloneness, separation, desolation and solitariness of singles play?!

A two-time WAC finalist, will the third time be the 3.0 championship charm?!

Benjamin Young

Record ... 29-32 overall, 15-23 in singles ...

TennisRecord.Com Rating: 2.92...

Singles Tournament Experience/Highlights: 11 total 3.0 entries, including three Vice-Championships, most recently at the 2021 Akron Open...

Pros: One of the most experienced and travelled 3.0 tournament players on the 3.0 tour, Ben brings a tournament know-how second to none ... with this entry, he will have played the WAC a record three years in a row, showing no one knows the WAC courts more than he! ... his rigorous 3.0 training program has led to even more power on his strokes, especially on his serve and forehand ... a captain of his league team, his leadership during the season shows he'll be ready for any conceivable on - or off - court situation...

Cons: Usually plays multiple events during the same tournament, so will he be able to focus on only having to focus on a single event during the tournament?!

Nicolas Fasola

Record: 8-4 overall, 5-4 in singles

TennisRecord.Com Rating: 2.95

Singles Tournament Experience/Highlights: Second, including 2021 GOC Semi-Finalist finish...

Pros: League and tournamnet singles play has him ready for the rough and tumble one-day event that is the WAC... has experience versus one of the tournament favorites, Benjamin, even enjoying a league and doubles win versus said tournament favorite!

Cons: As one of the favorites, will Nicolas be able to handle the intense pressure that comes with being one of the favorites?!

Scott Gold, Brian Hendricks

Record: 0-0

TennisRecord.Com Rating: N/A

Singles Tournament Experience/Highlights: None...

Pros: As they're completely 100% unknown, they'll bring a game that no one can prepare for!

Cons: Do they even exist?!

Levi Hall

Record: 7-12 in singles

Singles Tournament Experience/Highlights: Six , including winning the 2019 Tennis Store of Lexington Throw Down!

TennisRecord.Com Rating: 3.0T

Pros: Vast tournament experience, not only in Ohio, but in Kentucky, shows he won't be intimidated by the plush WAC courts ... has tournament experience against one of the tournament favorites, showing he won't be intimidated by the amazing WAC talent!

Cons: Will he be too un-intimidated?!

Predictions

For the second event in a row, look for the marquee event of the entire 3.0 tournament to be the Benjamin v. Nicholas 3.0 show down! And while Nicholas owns an undefeated 2-0 mark versus Benjamin, the latter's tournament tested experience at the WAC could prove the difference! That being said, these two titans of the 3.0 courts may not match up in the WAC finals if they don't take care of business as Nicholas opens up against unknown Brian while Benjamin awaits the winner of the experienced Levi versus newbie Scott affair!

Conclusion

WHOA! What a worthy list of entries! Only time will tell who shall emerge victorious in the second ever WAC! AND THAT TIME WILL BE THIS WEEKEND! Good luck all!
