2020 Akron Open Championships Information!

Updated: Oct 5, 2023

The Biggest 3.0 Major* of the Season is Here!

If it's July, it means only one thing - it's Akron Open time (although, it could also mean it's America's birthday, so maybe "July" means two things)! That's right, it's July and it's time for the biggest and longest running USTA 3.0 tennis tournament not only of the year but in the entire state of O-H-I-O!

Since 2005, the Akron Open has been the premier 3.0 event on the 3.0 tour (if there is such a thing), and has hosted 3.0 stars past and present, from the Chuck Bishop's to the Matt Birkbeck's, from the very first 3.0 champion, Barret Molenaur, to the most recent, Joshua Grischow. Indeed, considered the second Major* of the 3.0 season (after Paramount Medina's Adult Winter Championships), it is without a doubt the biggest in terms of size, attendance, and history, and as the granddaddy-like "Wimbledon" of the 3.0 season, it's on the bucket-list of every aspiring 3.0 player around!

And though current health situations have changed up the format of the event, the event will go on! The biggest and most significant events (to us, anyway, and we're sure to you as well), take place July 19th and July 23rd, the 3.0 singles championships and then the 3.0 doubles championships!

We at DFO are sure many other levels of tennis will compete at the Akron Open as well (in fact, that's actually not that difficult to confirm ... many other levels of tennis will compete), but since this website is dedicated to those of us in the 3's, in particular in the 3.0's, we're going to spend the next few days looking at the history, the former champions, and the current 3.0 players that are looking to make some noise (sometimes quite literally) at the 2020 incarnation of the Akron Open!

So ... let's start shouting!
