The 3.0er of the Year - Bryan Douville & Mark OConnell

(Perrysburg Tennis Center)

Singles Player of the Year - Kevin Walker

(Bay Village Rec)

Doubles Player of the Year - Mark OConnell

(Perrysburg Tennis Center)

Doubles Team of the Year - Clark Conley & Mark OConnell

(Perrysburg Tennis Center)

Captain of the Year - Christopher Cunningham

(Perrysburg Tennis Center)

Bryan, Kevin, and Mark, three of the winningest 3.0ers 2013 had to offer!

Claiming the most wins of the year and leading his team to Nationals, Captain of the Year Christopher had several stand out players to lean on! Clark and Mark dominated the doubles courts while Mark, playing with other partners when Captain Christopher needed team flexibility, earned even more wins to take home the Doubles Player of the Year award. Meanwhile, teammate Bryan, who did the same, notched an identical record (17-3), meaning the two would proudly split The 3.0er of the Year award. Kevin, meanwhile, thanks to his impressive performances in both league and playoff play, brought Bay Village Rec their first ever D.F.O. award, the Singles Player of the Year award!

Captain Christopher, in leading his team to the second most wins in O-H-I-O 3.0 history, Christopher also lead his Perrysburg Tennis Center crew to four championships (Flight, Districts, State, and Midwest) before ending their fantastic season in the most fantastic place of all - Nationals!

Voting Notes

In what should have been a relatively straight-forward vote, the Voting Panel respected Joshua winning of the biggest event of the season and the fact that he played a number of 3.0's, in particular 2011's D.F.O. 3.0er of the Year nominee Ron, in some tough, tough sets, clearly proving Joshua's deserving 3.0 status. However, the Panel was also impressed with the abilities of Kevin, who had the most singles wins of any nominee, as well as Bryan, who had the most wins overall. Add Ron to the mix, who added to his 3.0 leading record of Consolation Titles, and you can understand why the Voting Panel took their time with the 2013 vote. Indeed, the debate settled upon an issue as old as time itself (sorta) - which is more important? Playoff or tournament play? Like the mystery that is Coca Cola's recipe, perhaps no one will ever know!

Doubles, however, was extremely difficult, as all the tournament champions of 2013 were, due to the harsh, harsh rules of the D.F.O., sadly ineligible to receive this most coveted honor. Thus, it came down to league and playoff play between two very impressive sets of candidates. In the end, the longevity of Garvin and Rob almost swayed the Voting Panel, just like the doubles tandem no doubt swayed the tennis ladies during their most impressive 2013 Midwest Ohio Championships Champion run!

Christopher was the Voting Panel's slam-dunk overhead-smash choice for Captain of the Year honors as he became not only the fifth captain to lead his crew to Nationals, but did so by securing the second most team wins in Ohio 3.0 captain history!

Ineligible Nominees

Reynaldo Guillermo*

Tournament: Paramount Winter Consolation Title (1-1), Akron Open Quarter-Finalist (1-1) League: 4-1 Singles, 1-1 Doubles

Notes: Whether it's singles or doubles, few have the 3.0 skill of Rey Rey G! (we just made up that nickname and have no idea if it's legit or not, but most this website is illegitimate, so...)

Darin Laston*

Tournament: Paramount Fall Champion (3-0)

Notes: Ending the year with your first ever title is definitely the way to go before you end your 3.0 career!

Danny Andrich*/Tim Lastoria*3

Tournament: Akron Open Doubles Finalists (1-1)

League: 3-0 Doubles

Notes: Danny and Tim enjoyed a fantastic maiden - and final - season together, enjoying an 80% winning clip!

Vish Chanran*/Reynaldo Guillermo*

Tournament: Akron Open Doubles Champions (2-0)

Notes: Is there anything Rey cannot do?!

Christopher Messina*3/Robert Rummel* (Bay)

League: 2-0 Doubles; Playoffs: 7-1 Doubles

Notes: Leading Bay to it's first ever - and only - Midwest Ohio Championships Champion title is how this tandem went out in style!

Bryan Douville*3/Michael O'Toole* (Perrysburg)

League: 5-0 Doubles; Playoffs: 7-0 Doubles

Notes: Like the John Elway of tennis, these two went out a winner, but instead of some "bowl" that's apparently "super," they instead went out with a way more impressive prize, a Midwest Ohio Championships Champion title!
