Marcus, Richard, and John ... dominating the Dayton area ... and beyond!

The Dayton area dominated the 2011 rendition of the D.F.O. postseason awards with Captain Kyle winning Captain of the Year thanks to his double-digit winning season. Kettering, meanwhile, swept the remaining awards as Richard and John shared the doubles accolades as both shared equally impressive equal-win seasons! On the singles courts, their teammate Marcus enjoyed a dominating season, so dominating he also dominated the D.F.O. awards, winning both the Singles Player of the Year and The 3.0er of the Year!

What a comeback story! Congrats Son and Michael!

Michael and Son, meanwhile, thanks to their riveting comeback story, earned Special 3.0ers of the Year thanks to their tear-jerking comeback, a comeback that saw them recover from 2010's defeat at the Akron Open to win the whole thing in 2011!

Voting Notes

The Voting Panel had an incredibly tough field of nominees to sort through, as several could make a rightful claim to several D.F.O. awards. Marcus not only led his team to a Midwest Ohio Championships Championship, but he also led all nominees in singles wins. Andrew became the first 3.0 player to repeat a family legacy and win a title after his father (or brother ... or cousin ... we're not quite sure ... so let's just stick with "relative") had won one, and in fact Andrews father/brother/cousin/relative Adrian Fatu had earned consideration for the 2006 D.F.O. awards! Ganesh, meanwhile, repeated his nomination from last season, but this time by winning his first ever tournament title. Further, Rahul became the first winner of the Perrysburg Open, truly an historic first. And Michael, a long-time 3.0 player and doubles specialist, won the biggest and oldest event of them all, the Akron Open. Finally, Ron's longevity and multiple championships, consolation and otherwise, was impressive as well!

As for doubles, Richard and John's fantastic season put them in the running, as their season-high nine combined wins were truly eye catching. Meanwhile, comeback kids Michael and Son, as winners of the only doubles tournament of the season, winning an event they lost the previous year, were the Voting Panel's early favorites to take home the most made up award around. Indeed, their three year run together was also a factor, and it was a Hallmark Channel storybook ending that their three year tournament run ended with a big shiny trophy at the Akron Open ... but their lack of league and/or playoff play when Richard and John had excelled in league and/or playoff play kept the Voting Panel's eyes shifting back and forth between the two worthy teams.

As for the captains, Kyle was not only a fantastic player, but a fantastic captain as well, and with an Ohio leading 13 team wins on the year and a deep playoff run to his name, he was able to add his name to one more list - the list of captains who have won D.F.O. Captain of the Year!
