The legendary Subhash, the #1 3.0er of '03!

NWO dominated 2003 thanks in large part to Westowne's Richard, who's total wins on the courts of doubles (16) were impressive enough to earn him two individual awards - The 3.0er of the Year and the Doubles Player of the Year. Joining him in the on-court success was teammate Barry, and their double-digit wins together won them Doubles Team of the Year recognition! Meanwhile, in singles Subhash's record wins in singles (15), combined with the historic feat of winning the first ever 3.0 tournament, earned him the Singles Player of the Year while Captain Michael's 2nd place Midwest finish was evidence enough for Captain of the Year honors!

Speaking of history, Subhash would blaze the trail for his fellow future 3.0ers as he was the first player ever to meet ALL of the incredibly harsh standards of the most significant 3.0 tennis praising organization Ohio has to offer, the D.F.O.! So, let's check, where did the 2003 Singles Player of the Year excel? League play? Check. Playoff play? Check. Tournament play? CHECK! And, in winning the first ever 3.0 tournament event ever recorded, Subhash made 3.0 history!

In the leadership role, Wembley's Michael Shubert set a new O-H-I-O record for wins and championships, leading his East Side crew all the way to a 2nd place Midwest finish and 16 total team victories!

Voting Notes

To be honest, Anthony nearly took home the D.F.O. 3.0 Player of the Year award, as his career 38-79 record over 17 (!!!) seasons certainly seemed deserving of the status of this award designed to recognize, as one member of the Voting Panel put it, "not the best tennis player, but the best 3.0 tennis player." Indeed!

Whatever that means.

With a near D.F.O. 3.0 record 17 seasons (2nd all-time), Anthony is a testament to what being a 3.0 is all about! That being said, Thomas's amazing season with well over double-digit wins wasn't to be ignored, either. However, Subhash's amazing '03 season would not be ignored, as he went undefeated in all three facets of his 3.0 season - league, playoff, and tourney play. But what may have made Subhash all the more deserving of this D.F.O. 3.0 Singles Player of the Year Award is that he didn't leave us mere mortals in 3.0 forever ... for he later returned to 3.0 more than a decade later, showing that you may try to leave 3.0 tennis but 3.0 tennis will eventually work its way back into your game!

In doubles, the decision was a bit more clear-cut, as Barry and Richard's season, one of the best ever recorded, was not just impressive, but 3.0 impressive! Not only that, but the pair helped lead their team to a first ever Midwest Ohio Championships Championship! WHOA! And thanks to Richard's Ohio leading 16 wins on the courts, he also picked up The 3.0er of the Year award!

In leadership, Barry almost set an early D.F.O. record heretofore with his acumen as a captain as he chalked up 18 total victories on the season, captaining not one but two teams during the year and winning two Flight Championships! In the end, though, the Voting Panel was won over by Michael's overall win total and three team titles, Flight, District, and State!
