Congratulations, Chuck! You've made DFO history!

For the first time in recorded history, the USTA utilized the NTRP system for tennis league play. And for the first time in recorded history, the DFO awarded the most coveted award the DFO awards! Yet ... the two determining factors that determine who is nominated for DFO 3.0 Player of the Year are 1) tournament play and 2) state championship play, but seeing as the year 2000 was too busy worrying about the Y2K bug to hold either a tournament or state championship, the question begs to be asked - can ANYONE be nominated for DFO 3.0 Player of the Year if NO ONE meets the nomination criteria?

Hmmm...

But, seeing as this is year uno, the first year the USTA utilized the current NTRP rating system to ensure the lowest level of tennis possible was being played, we would be remiss if we didn't acknowledge someone. ANYONE!

Thus, we at DFO decided to pour through the USTA data and, after mucho research, we found several worthy candidates for the first ever made-up DFO award, as several players who were Flight Champions helped blaze the low-level tennis trail for countless others to follow!

When the proverbial tennis fuzz/dust settled, three 3.0ers stood out in what would be a history-in-the making selection process! Edmond, Donald, Richard, and Charles all made double the 3.0 history as they all won not just one but two D.F.O. postseason awards! Edmond, with 12 wins, all in doubles, the most one the 3.0 season, took home the first ever 3.0er of the Year award and Doubles Player of the Year award while his teammates Donald and Richard, thanks to double-digit wins (10) over two leagues, took Doubles Team of the Year honors. In singles, Christopher won the Singles Player of the Year award thanks to having the most singles wins (6) while COS's Philip took home Captain of the Year recognition thanks to doing the same while leading his club to a Flight title!

Congratulations, gentlemen, on making 3.0 history ... 20 years after you made history!

Voting Notes

The Voting Panel was won over by Philip's vast array of 3.0 qualities, from leadership to singles and doubles wins, to, especially, 3.0 longevity. But it was Edmond who won the most matches of the season (12), thus giving him all-3.0-time recognition!

In singles, as the award is given to the best singles player, that player was none other than Christopher C. Theis!

In doubles, Michael and especially Charles, not only enjoyed one of the best doubles seasons of the season, but also lasted an impressive combined five seasons at the 3.0 level. But ... Michael technically violated the "One-and-Done" rule with his way too good tennis play. Yikes! As such, Donald and Richard, the first pairing to ever notch 10 tag-team wins together, were given the team award!

As for the captain's award, Philip Wolf, who also won on The 3.0er of the Year honors, gathered some further postseason hardware as he was rewarded for his leadership skills in helping to guide his COS team to a area-leading 10 victories on the season, more than any other captain in the entire ... area!
